It is Movement Monday, and today we are bringing the movement to you! πŸͺ‘πŸ’œ

For those living with Parkinson's, staying active does not always mean hitting the gym. Seated exercises are a safe, accessible way to keep the body moving, build strength, and support balance, all from the comfort of a chair.

Here are a few simple moves to try right now:
πŸ™Œ Arm Raises: Slowly lift both arms overhead and lower them back down.
🦡 Seated Leg Lifts: Extend one leg at a time and hold for a few seconds.
πŸ”„ Ankle Circles: Rotate each ankle in slow circles to keep joints loose.
🀸 Torso Twists: Gently rotate your upper body side to side.
πŸ‘ Hand Squeezes: Open and close your hands to keep grip strength up.

Always check with a doctor or physical therapist before starting a new exercise routine. And remember, every little bit counts! πŸ’ͺ

It is Movement Monday, and this week we are diving into one of the most important questions in Parkinson's care: why does movement matter? πŸ’œπŸšΆ

For those living with Parkinson's disease, staying active is about so much more than fitness. Regular movement can help reduce stiffness, improve balance and coordination, support mental and emotional wellbeing, and make a meaningful difference in overall quality of life.

The best part? It does not have to be intense. Even gentle, intentional movement can have a real impact.

Not all fats are created equal. Some fats help support heart and brain health, while others are best enjoyed in moderation. Understanding the difference can make everyday food choices easier. πŸ«’πŸ’œ

Good fats are typically unsaturated fats. These fats can help support cholesterol levels, brain function, and overall heart health. You’ll often find them in foods like:
β€’ Avocados
β€’ Olive oil and canola oil
β€’ Nuts and seeds
β€’ Fatty fishlike salmon and tuna

Bad fats are usually saturated or trans fats. Eating too much of these fats may increase the risk of heart health concerns, so they are best limited when possible. Common sources include:
β€’ Fried foods
β€’ Processed snacks
β€’ Baked goods made with shortening
β€’ Fast food meals and processed meats

Choosing more good fats and limiting bad fats is one simple way to support healthy aging through nutrition.

In recognition of Brain Awareness Week, it’s a great time to highlight foods that support brain health at every age. πŸ§ πŸ’œ

Here are a few brain-healthy foods to keep in mind:
β€’ Fatty fish like salmon and tuna
β€’ Leafy greens such as spinach and kale
β€’ Berries, especially blueberries and strawberries
β€’ Nuts and seeds like walnuts and flaxseed
β€’ Whole grains that support steady energy
β€’ Olive oil for healthy fats

Pairing balanced nutrition with other healthy habits can help support memory, focus, and overall brain wellness as we age.

Eating well does not have to be expensive. πŸ₯•πŸ’œ

A few smart choices can help seniors and caregivers enjoy nutritious meals while sticking to a budget:

β€’ Plan simple meals ahead of time to avoid food waste
β€’ Choose store brands, frozen fruits, and frozen vegetables
β€’ Cook once and enjoy leftovers for another meal
β€’ Buy in-season produce when possible
β€’ Use beans, lentils, and eggs as affordable protein options

Healthy eating can be practical, affordable, and supportive of healthy aging.
