April is !

1. Practice Mindfulness
- Try to stay in the present moment rather than dwelling on the past or worrying about the future. Mindfulness can be improved by meditating.

2. Exercise
- Exercise has been shown to significantly reduce stress levels. Tai chi and yoga are frequently excellent forms of exercise and opportunities to foster a sense of community while also reducing stress.

3.Create a sense of community
- Building relationships with others promotes happiness and reduces stress, both of which are important for our physical and mental health.

4. Eat nutritional foods and avoid sugar
- Sugar has a negative impact on both our mental and physical health. If at all possible, try to incorporate a healthy diet that will provide your body with the fuel it needs to thrive.

Comment below on how you cope with stress.

While garlic will not treat the majority of significant medical issues, it can improve a senior's general health if consumed on a daily basis. Vitamin C, vitamin B6, allicin, manganese, and fiber are all found in abundance in this superfood. Here are three reasons why all seniors should aim to eat a few garlic bulbs per week.

1. Bolsters the Immune System
-Garlic has antiviral and antibacterial qualities that help seniors enhance their immune systems and recover faster from diseases.

2. Lowers Blood Pressure
-Keeping blood pressure under control is the most effective approach to lower the risk of a cardiac attack. According to studies, taking a daily garlic pill can lower blood pressure in as little as a few months.

3. Relieves Pain
-Chronic inflammation nearly invariably causes excruciating pain in joints and other sensitive body parts. Garlic has anti-inflammatory qualities that can aid with arthritis and other age-related disorders.

Our joints connect our bones and allow our body parts to move in a smooth manner. The cartilage and synovial tissue between our knees, elbows, shoulders, and hips protect the bones and keep them from rubbing against one another. Over the years, wear and tear of cartilage can lead to arthritis and joint pain, which limits our ability to move.

Our daily habits can improve joint health and maintain our mobility throughout our life. Here are some tips for healthy joints:

- Regular exercise can strengthen our muscles, which support our joints.
- Weight loss reduces strain on the joints.
- Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium and it helps with bone growth.
- When you sit for long periods, get up every hour and move about. This will help maintain agility and keep your body fluids moving.
- Stop smoking, smoking lowers bone density.

April 7th is World Health Day!

On April 7th, 1948, the World Health Organization (WHO) was founded. Every year has its own Health Day-related theme, and this year’s theme is “our planet, our health”. To do our part, we can re-use shopping bags, utilize refillable bottles for our water, and treat our clothing with care so it can be worn longer. Measures that can be good for our health include walking instead of taking the car, opening windows instead of using the air conditioner, and purchasing fresh produce instead of prepackaged goods when possible.

Find your green thumb!

Gardening is a healthy and mentally stimulating activity that can have therapeutic benefits for us as we grow older. Gardening reduces stress and is a low-impact way for older adults to achieve the physical activity. It can be adjusted to our desired level of activity or ability. We can sit comfortably in a chair and garden in elevated garden beds that don’t require much bending, or we can get dirty in the soil while kneeling on a soft surface.

Happy National Take a Walk in the Park Day! This day encourages us to get outside and enjoy a leisurely walk in the park.

As we grow older, walking can lead to a higher quality of life. Along with physical benefits, time spent in nature can have restorative effects on mental health and well-being. Social connections can also be increased by positive encounters while out on walks or nature watching.
