HULA - Honolulu-Uwajima Medical Learning Alliance
SimTiki welcomed enthusiastic and talented medical residents from Uwajima City Hospital this month. They participated in adult and pediatric simulation and safety training as well as laparoscopic skills. Dr. Benjamin Berg interviewed with NHK, Nippon Hōsō Kyōkai, Japan's public broadcaster. We are deeply grateful to be able to participate in this exchange program alongside the John A Burns, Office of Medical Education to benefit cultural, scientific and medical education between our countries.
Teaching international healthcare students and practitioners is a regular activity of SimTiki. This Simulation Patient Learning for Medical Residents (SimPLE) course is especially near to our hearts, being born from the tragic loss of the Ehime Maru, the Japanese fishing vessel carrying crew, teachers and students on 9 Feb 2001.
We send warm Aloha and Mahalo to all of our new friends, organizers, including Dr. Akiyoshi Ogimoto who led the group.

JABSOM has student interest groups who meet to extend their learning. The Cardiac and Family Medicine interest groups held a cardiac ultrasound event that also included medical students from AT Stills. Faculty from The Queen’s Heart Institute provided expert teaching and hands on guidance. We are fortunate to have such a generous healthcare provider workforce who make time to elevate our student experience. Mahalo to all!
