Here are some resources we've gathered to help families cope and talk to children about the storm/flooding on our islands. Scroll through to read about Creating Supportive Environments, Reactions to a Traumatic Event, Natural Disaster Facts, and Helping Children Cope. Lastly, a quick Google search for Sesame Street's Hurricane Here for Each Other will take you to their Family Guide about Strategies and Interactive Pages for Children.

"The ways that parents and other caregivers cope during and after the flood influence children’s functioning. Children often turn to adults for information, comfort, and help. Parents and teachers should try to remain calm, answer children’s questions honestly, and respond as best they can to requests. Children and adolescents do better when they understand the event they have just gone through." (From National Child Traumatic Stress Network).

ACTION ALERT AGAIN!!! ❕️🆘️🙏

👂Our bill is scheduled to be heard this
Wed 3/18! We REALLY need voices to make sure HPA stays out of the working group.

✍️📜Written testimony due TOMORROW TUE 3/17 by 1pm to be on time. Even if you miss it submit late! We NEED as many voices as possible!

Consider writing that you are in support of a working group to be created that will help create licensure for School Psychologists as we are still the only state in the country without credentialing for School Psychs. But also please consider mentioning that ❗️HPA does not represent school psychology, and we believe their inclusion is an attempt to overreach their influence into a specialization they do not represent. We also believe that because they are not the regulating body of psychologists, which includes clinical psychologists, there is no reason for them to be a part of the working group.

📲please see our instagram highlights for a reminder on How To Submit Testimony

‼️⚠️Our licensure bill made it through all of the house committees, and our next step is to get it through all of the senate committees. The bill has passed unamended so far. 👏

🤔HPA and BOP have advocated for the removal of NASP delegate from the working group, and adding HPA to the working group.🙅‍♀️ We have been working to prevent these changes. HPA does not represent school psychology, and we believe their inclusion is an attempt to overreach their influence into a specialization they do not represent. We also believe that because they are not the regulating body of psychologists, which includes clinical psychologists, there is no reason for them to be a part of the working group.

🤝🧠🧑‍🏫🌏We advocated to keep NASP delegate to ensure the pathway is aligned to NASP’s recognized standards and scope of practice of school psychologists.

Stay tuned for next steps!

Our HB1889 is scheduled for a hearing! Thurs 2/26 2pm. That means we need testimony submitted again!!! “On time” testimony is due by 2pm Wed 2/25. (They will still accept late though).

🤔please see our instagram highlights for a refresher on how to submit testimony!

🧏‍♀️consider adding to your testimony that credentialing will lead to protections for our keiki and that it would speed up the hiring process and retain more school psychologists!

Please submit testimony for our licensure bill!

Suggested Talking Points:
-❗️Without a proper credential, individuals with inappropriate training can qualify for and be hired to practice as a School Psychologist for the Department of Education, which places our keiki at particular risk for malpractice
-❗️Credentialing School Psychologists would open the door for the DOE to bill Medicaid for School Psychological services, which will support the overall operating budget of the Department

Submit by Wed 2/18 2pm. (Can still submit after that time up until hearing but will be considered "late")
