Sharing Knowledge, Saving Lives
In the State of Hawaii, the survival rate for sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is only about 12%, and less than 3 out of 10 people in Hawaii know how to do good quality chest compressions. We have 2 minutes to start some type of intervention before the brain starts to die. Every minute that we wait, the victim’s chance of survival decreases by 10%. Studies find that if compressions are started, and an AED can be applied within the first 2 minutes of cardiac arrest, the person goes from a 10% chance of survival to a 90% chance of survival.
For the past 14 years, AED Institute has managed the Public Access to Defibrillation (PAD) program at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, with more than a 70% save rate.
