Today is World AIDS Day.
For more than three decades, communities around the world have marked World AIDS Day on December 1 as a time to honor those we have lost, support people living with HIV, and recommit to ending the epidemic. Every administration, across political parties, has recognized this day in some form.
This year, however, federal employees and federally funded programs were instructed not to use government resources to acknowledge or promote World AIDS Day, according to reporting from national news outlets. The directive advises staff and grantees to avoid public-facing messaging on all commemorative days, including World AIDS Day.
The Hawai’i Health & Harm Reduction Center is a community leader in the fight to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS, prevent the spread of HIV, and provide medical care and supportive services to those at-risk for HIV or living with HIV. We
We know that HIV is not over.
We refuse to allow stigma or silence to undo decades of progress.
We will not be erased.
Join us as we honor World AIDS Day in Hawai‘i and uplift the resilience, memory, and leadership of our community.
