Storm Awareness Isn’t About Panic. It’s About Paying Attention
One of the most powerful lessons from The Gift of Fear (by Gavin de Becker) is that danger often gives us signals before it arrives. The problem is, we tend to ignore them because nothing bad has happened yet.
Storm preparedness works the same way.
Over the past few weeks here in Hawaiʻi, we’ve seen firsthand how quickly conditions can change. Back-to-back storms have brought devastating flooding, damaged homes, displaced families, and impacted entire communities across our islands.
The difference between being prepared and being vulnerable often comes down to whether we act on early warnings—or wait too long.
For our seniors and families, storm awareness isn’t just about watching the forecast.
It’s about:
• Having a plan in place
• Checking supplies before they’re needed
• Listening to that “we should prepare now” feeling
At Wilson Homecare, we believe care isn’t just reactive—it’s proactive.
