Aloha families! When weather or schedules keep us indoors, there are still so many ways to connect, learn, and have fun with your keiki at home. 💛 Below are some simple, low-pressure ideas that support regulation, communication, and joy—no fancy materials required.
🎨 Creative & Sensory Play
* Coloring, drawing, or painting with different textures (crayons, markers, sponges)
* Play‑Doh or kinetic sand for fine motor skills
* Water play in the sink or bin with cups, spoons, and toys (great for calming!)
📚 Language & Connection Time
* Read favorite books together or look at picture books and label items
* Sing songs or listen to music your keiki enjoys
* Practice turn‑taking by asking simple questions or offering choices (“Do you want red or blue?”)
🧺 Life Skills at Home
* Sorting laundry by color or size
* Helping wipe tables, put away toys, or set up snack
* Practicing handwashing steps or getting dressed routines
🧘 Movement & Regulation
* Dance parties to favorite songs 🎶
* Obstacle courses using pillows, chairs, or tape paths
* Stretching, yoga, or deep breathing together
🎯 Play With Purpose
* Puzzles, matching games, or stacking toys
* Adult‑guided play following your keiki’s lead
* Narrate what they’re doing (“You’re building a tall tower!”)
Remember: there’s no “right” way to play. Short moments of connection are meaningful, and following your family member’s interests makes learning more fun and natural.
Mahalo for all you do for your keiki—you know them best. 🌺
