Pap tests and human papillomavirus (HPV) tests are types of cervical cancer screening. These tests are used to find infections or abnormal cells in your cervix that could lead to cancer.

How often you get tested depends on your age, medical history, and the results of your last tests. In general:

• 21–24 years old: Get a Pap test every 3 years or wait until you’re 25 to start getting tested.
• 25–65 years old: Get an HPV test every 5 years, or a Pap test and HPV test together (co-testing) every 5 years.
• Older than 65: You may not need HPV/Pap tests anymore.

Some people may need to get tested more often. Your doctor or nurse will tell you which tests you need and how often you should get them.

Let’s start the new year off strong with the power of *accurate* birth control info: No, you don’t need a “detox” if you decide to stop using hormonal birth control.

Any time there’s a change in your hormones, there’s a chance of temporary side effects. But after a few months, your body will adjust, and side effects will typically go away. If your birth control helped manage things like heavy periods or acne, you can expect a return to those symptoms after stopping it.

Remember that as soon as you stop your birth control, you’re not protected from pregnancy anymore. You’ll need to use another method, like condoms, to avoid pregnancy. If you’re starting new birth control, you may need to use a backup method until your new one starts working.

Reach out to your provider with any questions about stopping or starting birth control!
