I am a trauma clinician and certified trainer for Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), a brief intervention that helps resolve trauma and treat many other mental health conditions. We trained several clinicians at Tripler Army Medical Center however I would like to extend the training to civilian mental health professionals. I am planning on coming out to offer a training from July 31-Aug 2 and looking for interested mental health professionals and a location in the Honolulu area to host the training. I appreciate any leads in connection to interested mental health professionals and space. Thank you!

In the third part of our Holiday Bill of Rights, we recognize the importance of practicing self-care and expressing gratitude , especially during the last two weeks of December. can be an really effective way to participate in both!

We are soooo proud of our very own Nicholas, who graduated with his Bachelors in Public Health this past weekend. We are so proud of you and honored that you are a part of our team.

In January, Matt Sorenson ran in the HURT100 and raised over $760 for Mental Health America of Hawaiʻi. Donations raised were the equivalent to us being able to register 32 people to take Mental Health First Aid, or to cover the cost of one staff person presenting 24 one-hour resilience/wellness trainings – a massive impact in our community!
On January 14, 2023, Matt Sorenson will again be running in the HURT100 and raising money to support Mental Health America of Hawaiʻi’s (MHAH) work in Hawaiʻi. The HURT100 is a two-day race which consists of five identical 20-mile laps on trails connecting the Mānoa, Makiki, and Nu‘uanu Valleys here on the island of Oahu. Each lap consists of nearly 5000 ft of elevation gain and loss totaling up to almost 25000 ft by the end of the 100-mile race.
Please support Matt's fundraiser for Mental Health America of Hawaiʻi by making a pledge or a donation.

The second part of our Holiday Bill of Rights is here! Today, we acknowledge that social gatherings may be stressful to navigate at times. Five Finger Breathing is a breathing exercise that uses the length of your fingers to time slow breaths and promote a state of calmness. It brings your awareness away from the worries in your head and quiets your mind.

Our yearly Holiday Bill of Rights posts have begun! We aim for the validation of complex emotions, self-care, and getting help even during the holiday season. If you have concern for yourself or someone you know, we offer free, confidential mental health screenings on our website located in the linktree in our bio!
Happy Holidays from Mental Health America of Hawai‘i!

During the holiday season, it may be hard to prioritize yourself with everything going on. The best thing to do during stressful times is to pause, take a break, and do something that helps you recharge. Happy Holidays from Mental Health America of Hawaii!

Our dear friend, Chad, a phenomenal advocate for Youth Su***de Prevention, began his walk around Maui Island just a couple of hours ago. Chad is doing this to create awareness as well as recognize his young child who died by su***de, and has turned it in to a fundraiser for Mental Health America of Hawaii. If you’re on Maui Island, check in on him if you see him, offer some water, and thank him for all that he’s doing to prevent su***de.

Beauty isn't about blooming in perfect circumstances. It's about finding an inner resilience that helps you grow strong under any circumstance. No matter what darkness you have encountered, you can bloom from it with love, support, and coping skills.
With dedication and compassion, caregivers also put their patients before their own health. With that, we’d like to give our thanks to the people taking care of people.

It can be easy to find things we are grateful for everyday like our family and friends. How about being grateful for something that has caused you loss or sorrow such as divorce or a business failure. As painful as divorce can be, there may be lessons learned or new relationships formed that you can be grateful for. Taking the time to explore the negative events in our lives gives us the opportunity to emotionally stretch and be rewarded with hard won reasons to be grateful.

Violent events trigger a significant amount of anxiety and trauma for not just those directly involved, but witnesses and those of us who watch it through media. For tips and resources for coping through traumatic events visit bit.ly/3ik0nm0, or click the link in our bio, or visit noshamegethelp.org for access to local resources including free online mental health screenings.

The recent rash of senseless violence throughout the country continues to take a toll on people’s mental health. Remember, it takes time to fully absorb the impact of a major loss. Loss can be one of life’s most stressful events and can cause a major emotional crisis. Time and loving support can help ease the pain and allow you to move forward focusing on positive memories. When you are healing in grief, it is important to honor that some days will be harder than others. On those days, reach out for support, take time to rest, and be gentle with yourself.

Journaling is a healthy way of coping with overwhelming or complex emotions while also being able to write about things positively effecting you. It can help with managing anxiety and reducing stress. Practicing gratitude, planning out your day/week, and things to work on are very good and simple things to write about if you're considering journaling. Writing whatever is on your mind is also very valid, journaling is not meant to be stressful!

Burnout refers to the exhaustion someone feels when repeating the same tasks over a long period of time. This can cause stress, loss of motivation, and apathy. Sam Hashimoto - Hashibobo speaks on this subject and gives tips on how to cope with burnout.
Stigma causes people to have a negative view on mental health conditions and getting help. Some ways to erase this stigma is to keep the conversation of mental health going. Getting help and wanting to improve your mental health shows that you care. There’s no shame in getting help.
MHAH offers free virtual mental health screenings in the link in our bio.

Research shows that people who live more authentically are prone to greater psychological well-being. As a concept, authenticity simply means embracing who you really are, at your very core.
