Heritage Family Medicine is a unique primary care clinic founded by myself, Dr. Neal, with the purpose of providing affordable and accessible primary care to the Columbia Gorge community. The clinic is based out of my home where I care for patients of all ages with a wide variety of backgrounds. We are looking to hire a compassionate, hard working, professional MA to directly assist me in caring for 500+ members at Heritage Family Medicine. Our goal is to create a place of healing for our patient’s physical, mental, and even spiritual needs. My assistant will be challenged to work at the top of her license, will work alongside a Board Certified Family Physician, will have ample learning opportunities, and will develop meaningful relationships with the patients we serve.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- A valid medical assistant certificate
- Minimum 2-4 years of experience in a primary care setting
- Bilingual Spanish/English is preferred.
- A minimum of 3 character references
- Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices and procedures within primary care
- Willing to learn new skills under the direct supervision of Dr. Neal
Responsibilities:
- Understand and explain to members and potential clients the benefits of Direct Primary Care and a healthy doctor/patient relationship.
- Welcome patients to the clinic, gather patient information, record pertinent medical history, confirm purpose of visit, collect vital signs, and room patients
- Fill medication prescriptions and refills following clinic policy under direct supervision of Dr. Neal.
- Perform point of care tests including urinalysis, uHCG, rapid strep testing, influenza A+B testing, COVID swab tests, and other tests clinically indicated
- Assist in surgery by maintaining a sterile field, fetching sterile supplies, cutting sutures, and providing direct assistance to Dr. Neal. (Vasectomies, skin excisions, etc.)
- Run the autoclave, scrub surgical equipment, and safely store surgical instruments for reuse.
- Schedule visits, phone calls, video conferences, and surgeries.
- Wipe down surfaces, take out garbages, and maintain a clean and organized work environment
- Review fax machine inbox and transfer records into the appropriate patient charts, notifying Dr. Neal directly of documentation that needs review.
- Keep supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders, verifying receipt
- Maintain the roster of Heritage Members ensuring documentation is placed in charts, billing accounts are updated, e-mail and message requests are tended to in a timely manner.
- Draw and administer allergy injections under the supervision of Dr. Neal.
- Educate and counsel patients by providing resources, physician's orders and answering questions about procedures or treatment plans
- Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance and calling for repairs
- Ensure member dues are current and labs/imaging/medications are billed in a timely manner
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks and participating in professional organizations
- Other MA related duties required to meet patient needs
- Maintain patient confidence and protect operations by keeping patient care information confidential
- Serve and protect the physician or healthcare provider practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state and local requirements and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards
Pay: Competitive, dependent on experience.
