SEASONS :: Some we will cherish and remember some we desperately want to forget but can’t.
My friend this is life.
I’m happy to be in one of those seasons that counting all my blessing seems impossible. But just coming out of some hard times I can look back and reflect on what sustains me during the tough ones and thought I’d share just in case it might help someone.
These little daily choices add up when done perfectly imperfect. Held loosely while also being taken very seriously. Not beating ones self up on the days it all caves but rather waking to a clean slate the next morning knowing the new day’s choices can look very different leaving you feeling different at the end of your day. We can turn the journey around with a few small choices.
So here goes. I few things that I’ve been doing over the past 30ish plus years that have sustained me:
1 - Wake up and carve out time for a little personal alone time. With yourself and God. I prefer a hot cup of coffee…first things first. This can look different for everybody and every body. It can also look very different everyday. Some might look like a secret sanctuary which can be created anywhere you are with a little intention, book, Bible and a candle. Some days, especially those tough days it looked like lacing up my tennies and hitting the street for a walk while listening to my devo/meditation or great playlist. Or just silence.
2 > Eating well 80% of the time. Balancing power and pleasure food like my life depends on it. Because it does. The way we feed our body 80% of the time greatly affects how we feel in the current day and in our later days in life. Do I indulge at the holidays? Yes ma’am or sir! 💯 in the six weeks between Thanksgiving and New Years that equates to about 6 days not 6 weeks. This season don’t throw in the towel until January 1. Start eating well now. 80% of the time. Start feeding your body now. Start feeling well now.
3 > Keep a tight inner circle. Like real tight. Trust yourself but also be coachable. If you’re trying to get a promotion, get sober, start a new habit find your tribe who are living out these dreams and be around them. Don’t compare and despair. Instead turn envy into admiration. Don’t be an exact copy but emulate and duplicate the daily habits you observe. It works when we work it.
4 > Letting go of people, places and things that are not in your control. This one I’m still learning and is a tough one for someone who wants the best and sees the best in people.
5 > Retraining our brain and mindset. In the early 90’s science was just catching up to the biblical truth that we get to renew our mind daily if we decide to. Now we know unequivocally that we can create new pathways in our brain to change what parents, coaches, unappreciative bosses, abusive spouses, teachers, etc. might have programmed from their words and action or inaction. I have done this over the years with scripture, mantras and quotes. Vision boards are powerful as well.
I hope this is helpful! If you find yourself in a tough season (or even in a blessed season). What we do this minute affects the next and the next. I think you get it.
If you need help feel free to DM message me.
I have been blessed with an amazing tribe along my life’s journey and love to help those looking to change!
Peace and love!
