It’s been a while since I’ve shown up here—and that pause was intentional. This season required reflection, alignment, and quiet work behind the scenes.

As we close out this year, I’m grateful for growth that didn’t always show itself publicly, lessons that stretched me, and clarity that’s shaping what’s next. I’m especially thankful for the opportunities to present, lead panels, and for the trust placed in me to articulate what was needed for each audience—work rooted in empowerment, resilience, and growth.

The new year brings renewed energy, meaningful partnerships, and a continued commitment to serving individuals, families, schools, businesses, and communities with purpose and care. I’m looking forward to presenting and collaborating even more in the year ahead.

Today I had the honor of presenting at the Alabama Counseling Association Conference on Utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution Focused Brief Therapy to Support Survivors of Sexual Trauma.
Grateful for the opportunity to equip fellow counselors with trauma-informed tools that promote safety, healing, and hope.

Susan Kirkland has dedicated her career to helping others heal, grow, and overcome adversity. With a B.S. in English and a Master’s in Counseling from UAB, she brings more than a decade of experience in counseling, education, and mental-health outreach. A Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist, Susan empowers children, teens, college students, and parents through counseling, consulting, and powerful presentations.

Through Dunn-Kirkland Counseling & Consulting Services (DKCCS), she creates safe, supportive spaces for individuals while helping organizations build mental wellness, ethical leadership, and cultures of resilience. Featured on WBRC Fox 6 News and NBC 13, Susan continues to challenge stigma and inspire action in every setting she serves.

A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of presenting to the dedicated employees at Birmingham City Hall on the importance of communicating intentionally.

We dug into the difference between simply hearing and truly listening—and how practicing intentional communication can strengthen relationships, foster trust, and build a healthier workplace culture. 💬✨

I’m still grateful for the opportunity to pour into those who serve our city so faithfully. Conversations like these remind us that communication isn’t just about words—it’s about connection. Thank you Adrienne for the opportunity.
