Susan Kirkland has dedicated her career to helping others heal, grow, and overcome adversity. With a B.S. in English and a Master’s in Counseling from UAB, she brings more than a decade of experience in counseling, education, and mental-health outreach. A Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist, Susan empowers children, teens, college students, and parents through counseling, consulting, and powerful presentations.

Through Dunn-Kirkland Counseling & Consulting Services (DKCCS), she creates safe, supportive spaces for individuals while helping organizations build mental wellness, ethical leadership, and cultures of resilience. Featured on WBRC Fox 6 News and NBC 13, Susan continues to challenge stigma and inspire action in every setting she serves.

A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of presenting to the dedicated employees at Birmingham City Hall on the importance of communicating intentionally.

We dug into the difference between simply hearing and truly listening—and how practicing intentional communication can strengthen relationships, foster trust, and build a healthier workplace culture. 💬✨

I’m still grateful for the opportunity to pour into those who serve our city so faithfully. Conversations like these remind us that communication isn’t just about words—it’s about connection. Thank you Adrienne for the opportunity.

Maternal mental health is essential in Alabama, especially as Black mothers face some of the highest rates of maternal mortality and mental health disparities in the nation. Events like this not only raise awareness but also foster community, connection, and healing. We are honored to have been part of this vital conversation.
