It is Hand Therapy Week!

Meet Sydney Thigpen, our Occupational Therapist. She’s from Trussville, AL and has been working at the Hoover TherapySouth clinic since August 2024. She graduated with her Master’s of Science in Occupational Therapy in 2021 from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She has worked at TherapySouth for 3 years treating as a hand therapist focusing on treatment of the upper extremity. She works on upper extremity injuries conservatively and sees post-op patients from a variety of injuries including but not limited to: trigger finger, wrist fractures/sprains, finger fractures/sprains, tendon and ligament injuries, carpal tunnel, cubital tunnel, hand pain/stiffness, and splint fabrications.

Sydney is a Certified Neuro Specialist and specializes in the treatment of patients who have acquired traumatic brain injuries and strokes.

In case you didn't know, April is National Occupational Therapy Month. So let's get to know our favorite Occupational Therapist at TherapySouth Hoover:

Chuku Ikejiani has worked at TherapySouth for just over 2 years. He earned his Master's in Occupational Therapy from UAB in 2020 and helped lead the development of a chapter for the organization, Coalition of Occupational Therapy Advocates for Diversity (COTAD). He also attended Point University where he obtained his Bachelor's of Science and Minor in Biblical Studies. During his time at Point University, he had the opportunity to receive an academic and basketball scholarship. He also had the ability to coach and train athletes. Since starting his career as an Occupational Therapist, he has been certified as a Dry Needling Practitioner and holds the LSVT-BIG certification to work with individuals with Parkinson’s Disease. When not working, Chuku enjoys spending time with his family, working out, and shopping for new shoes.
