Why do you ask about antibiotics before my procedures?

We are asking because we are concerned with any new infections that a patient may have before a pain procedure. Some procedures we perform can worsen an active infection. We also advise that patients who have new symptoms of infection (fever, cough, frequent/painful urination) call us if they have an upcoming procedure. It is for patient safety that we cancel or reschedule certain procedures in this setting.

We have decided that because of the school closures and potential for ice on the road to delay opening our office until 12pm. We will contact any patient appointments that are affected by this. Please be safe and stay off the roads unless necessary.

Attention Pain Management Patients

There is a CMS (Medicare) proposal that will drastically reduce the coverage for medicare patients who get certain pain procedures:

According to the new proposal, the following peripheral nerve block and related procedures are not covered under these policies.
Occipital nerve block and denervation
Stellate ganglion block
Trigeminal nerve block
Suprascapular nerve block
Thoracic nerve block
Thoracic nerve denervation
Genicular nerve blocks (GNB), cryoneurolysis or ablation
Pudendal nerve block
Digital nerve block
Posterior tibial nerve block at the tarsal tunnel
Ulnar nerve block
Denervation of the trigeminal nerve for any diagnosis other than TN
Any other peripheral nerves blocks, or denervation not listed above

There is a public comment period for this. If you have had these procedures and wish that they be covered by Medicare in the future, email your thoughts or concerns to:

We are delighted to announce that a new physician will be joining our practice! Dr. Audra Eason has completed a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and an accredited pain fellowship at Virginia Commonwealth University. Dr. Eason shares a similar background to our other physicians. A highly capable and well-trained physician, Dr. Eason was chosen from dozens of qualified candidates and will start performing procedures at Cahaba Pain and Spine Care June 2025. The addition of Dr. Eason will result in improved appointment availability for our patients, some of whom may wait several weeks for procedures. As always; our focus remains delivering excellent care and improving things where necessary. The addition of Dr. Eason will allow Drs. Thoma, Martin and Scruggs to continue serving
Cahaba patients while improving your overall access to the clinic and your individualized care. Dr. Eason will be performing procedures for some of our established patients. We look forward to working alongside her as she starts in June. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Eason to Cahaba Pain and Spine Care!
Please enjoy some information about Dr. Eason.
Sincerely Cahaba Pain and Spine Care
