It’s the new year - and with it comes all the pressure to make resolutions - ones we likely won’t keep. If you do nothing else I want you to keep this in mind
I had a session with a client and the topic of leisure came up. The client expressed struggling to do anything except be absorbed by the super cozy couch during their free time - haven’t we all been there!
My approach is a little different than some coaches and therapists - I mostly focus on radical grace and acceptance. Self-imposed limits rarely work for me - I rebel against them. Instead I ask clients to focus on their motivators/movers
Ask yourself this:
- What am I looking for in my leisure time today?
- How is the activity I picked out going to help me fulfill that need?
- Do I have a robust selection of leisure activities to utilize to meet my needs?
If you are looking for connection - you won’t find it on the couch. But if you are in need of rest and comfort - the couch is a good place to land. Use this year to explore your fun and free time.
Develop hobbies for the sake of hobbies rather than as a means to be productive or make an additional money. You deserve rest. You deserve play. Both are essential to nervous system regulation. Make the most of your free time.
