A favorite tool of our ABH therapists, this 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Technique is a simple mindfulness exercise that helps calm anxiety, panic, or overwhelm by anchoring you in the present moment through your five senses.
By scanning your senses and naming the following information, you can interrupt your body’s flight-or-flight response.
Grounding shifts attention to sensory information, which activates the thinking brain, signals safety to the nervous system, and slows breathing and heart rate.
