I am re-reading “How to Raise an Intuitive Eater: Raising the Next Generation with Food and Body Confidence” by Sumner Brooks and Amee Severson . The concepts and messages in this book are especially important to remember as we move into the new year as it typically comes with a bombardment of negative messaging about food and body. If you are a parent or caregiver, this is a gentle reminder that even if you aren’t commenting negatively about your body or verbally labeling foods as “good” or “bad” that the children and adolescents in your life are paying attention to what you do. They notice what foods you are or are not eating, whether you purposely avoid pictures, etc. So even if your words aren’t conveying diet culture messaging, I encourage us all to continue to do the work so that our actions don’t either.

The butterfly is seen as a symbol of hope and transformation. The Glow Wild exhibit at was amazing. Being intentional about finding symbols and moments of hope can help with taking another step forward in recovery even when it feels dark around you. I thought this picture captured it beautifully.

Such a funny show for anyone looking for a laugh and it has some good tidbits that can easily be applied to recovery. Recovery is a challenge, it isn’t easy. Dropping the expectation that it is suppose to be easy makes room for acceptance of the current reality. If it is hard in the beginning and feels like a struggle, it is a good indicator that you are making the recovery choice. It is hard in the beginning but it won’t be hard forever.
