Its a profound sadness thats Cumberland County and the  entire Fire Department family has loss a great man and Leader and one of the best Fire Chiefs . The Staff and Melvin Mortuary Transport sends or deepest sympathy and thoughts and prayers for the Harris Family and Cotten FD . It was a great Honor to be a part of taking care of Chief Harris last night and the full es**rt to the FH . Love thoughts and prayers. Rest easy sir

It is with profound sadness and grief that we announce the passing of our Fire Chief Owen Harris. Chief Harris was the definition of a public servant and leader. He served the citizens of Cumberland County for nearly 70 years with 42 of those as the Fire Chief. The only thing he loved more than the fire service was his family. Even though he spoke softly, he served as an example and mentor to all he encountered, garnering the respect of all that met him. The only consolation is knowing that he is back with his beloved "Cooie".

Rest Easy Chief, even though we don't want to we will take it from here.

Melvin Mortuary Transport Service is looking transport and removal personnel for on-call basis cause me very daytime or nighttime persons are paid by the call must have clean criminal background and clean driving history minimum age 18 years old must be able to do some heavy lifting . So as i’m on my front porch this morning having my morning coffee talking to Lori Goodwin Melvin.Looking over the death calls that came in over the weekend . It just hit me we are like semi retired all thought we own our business we are truly blessed to have the life we have been afforded with the extra time and money to take more vacation and go to the different places we have been able to travel to and take our kids and the grand baby as well . All thought our business is very demanding and Grim and very much so in your face that life is way to short and we can always make more money but time we cant get back . I would just like to say to all our business associates on face book and that may see this it’s truly amazing and a honor to be in this profession and able to assit all our Funeral Home’s & Crematorium in and around the states . Thank you all for the opportunity be apart of this wonderful journey . God has truly blessed us .
