While childhood cancer is rare, it remains the leading cause of death by disease among children in the U.S.
Here's what you should know:
Prevalence: In the US, an estimated 15,000 children and adolescents will be diagnosed with cancer this year. That's 43 kids every day, and 1 in 285 will be diagnosed by their 20th birthday.
Progress: Thanks to medical advancements, the five-year survival rate for all childhood cancers has risen to over 85%. This remarkable progress offers hope and shows the impact of research and support.
A Complex Fight: Childhood cancer isn't just one disease; it's a group of more than a dozen major types and over a hundred subtypes, each requiring a specific approach to treatment. The most common types include leukemias, brain and spinal cord tumors, and lymphomas.
