Quick message to my guitar and bass player friends: It's a good idea to remove the batteries from instruments your not currently using. I suggest storing them in the case compartment in plastic bag, otherwise this can happen.

This Week's "On The Bench" This was a dumpster dive or a case of guitar abandonment! This guitar was fished out of a dumpster and brought into my shop for restoration. No guitar deserves to be tossed into a dumpster! If you have a guitar you're not going to use, just remember before throwing it away that there's someone out there that can't afford one and would really appreciate that guitar! I will comment on the photos on what I did to give this guitar a second life. Thank you for reading. Dave Ross "The Guitar Doctor"

This Week's "On The Bench" This 1953 Gibson L-48 guitar came into the shop with some issues. This guitar is part of the Kalifornia Karl collection which is now up to 105 guitars! The pickup had somehow gotten lodged between the pickguard and the bridge. The guitar also wasn't playing in tune. I will comment on the photos as usual. Thank you for reading. This Week's "On The Bench" Back in the 60's there were many guitars and a few basses manufactured by the Teisco factory. These guitars came with various names on the headstock. Most of the logos fell off over the years because they were only glued on. You can clearly see the similarity in the instruments, especially in the body's and neck's. They are also sort after due to the new Japanese collectible market. I love the challenge of restoring these old instruments and getting them back in action once again. In this post I explain what I did to get a bass back in playing condition. I also explain what I did to restore a 6 string that is part of the Kalifornia Karl collection. Thank you for reading. I just want to give a big shout out to the You Rock School of Music in Cranston. This is a school of music like no other, teaching all ages to play, write, and perform music. Students even get to form their own bands. We went to see the 3rd annual You Rock The Neighborhood music festival today where 13 You Rock School bands performed, and we were very impressed. If you or your children have an interest in music, I highly recommend contacting You Rock School of music located in eastern Cranston near the Warwick line.

This Week's "On The Bench" Many of know me as a guitar and bass doctor; however, I also have many other stringed instruments come into the shop for various repairs. During the 1960s, my dad worked as a repairman at Axelrod Music downtown. During that time, a German Violin maker named Mr. Bergstrom taught him the trade. When I was in high school my dad was working from his home, and he taught me how to repair all band instruments including violins, cellos and upright basses. I then started doing guitar repairs when we opened Ross Music store in 1975. I continue to repair all stringed instruments because this is my passion. Here are some instruments that I have repaired over the last month in addition to guitars and bass guitars. I will comment on the photos as usual. Thank you for reading.
