Nearly Sixty years ago, in the tiny and peaceful central Illinois farm community of Hopedale, the amazing success story of the Hopedale Medical Complex (HMC) began as Hopedale Hospital. This 20 bed community hospital was built in large part with local citizens’ volunteer labor and the hard work and integrity for which it is still known. At Hopedale Medical Complex, we believe a person’s optimum health and wellness can only be provided when followed closely by highly trained and skilled physicians and support staff who truly KNOW their patients , and where top quality care is the standard—not the exception. We can prove that advanced healthcare delivered in a peaceful rural setting is not only less hectic for the patient and family –it can many times be MORE effective! Hopedale Medical Complex (HMC) is owned by the not-for-profit corporation, The Hopedale Medical Foundation, which was established in 1963. Located just a short distance from Peoria and Bloomington, IL HMC is a truly remarkable institution with the perfect blend of modern technology, warm family atmosphere, outstanding doctors and a compassionate nursing staff. On March 2nd, we celebrate the birthday, life, and legacy of founder, Dr. Lawrence Rossi, Sr.

We are excited to share some new footage of the groundbreaking that we received from the Massa family that shows the Hospital Groundbreaking. Such an experience for us to be taken back to this moment and be a part of it!

It is because of his vision, determination, and tireless direction that Hopedale Hospital became a reality. On May 8, 1955, Dr. Lawrence J. Rossi, Sr. opened Hopedale Hospital with the help of hundreds of hardworking area farmers, generous local citizens, and volunteers.

Today, Dr. Rossi’s dream lives on. And each of us are thankful to be a part of it.

The Hopedale Medical Foundation is now accepting applications from high school seniors, college freshmen and HMC employees for the 2026 Scholarship Awards!

The deadline is Friday, April 10, 2026 at 5:00pm.

Eligible school districts include: Olympia, Tremont, Delavan, Hartsburg-Emden, Deer Creek-Mackinaw, Midwest Central, Christian Life Academy, Private & Home School Seniors residing in these districts.

The following scholarships will be awarded:
🔸$5,000 Michelle Anne Rossi Memorial Nursing Scholarship
🔸$4,500 Candice Blackert Nursing Scholarship (may be awarded in varying amounts based on scholarship applicants needs)
🔸$4,000 Thelma Alford Nursing Scholarship
🔸$3,000 Allen-McCabe Healthcare Field Scholarship
🔸$3,000 Founder’s (Healthcare) Scholarship
🔸$2,000 John Rossi Memorial Nursing Scholarship (may be awarded separate from or in addition to one of the other awards)
🔸$2,000 Donna Bitner Springer Nursing Scholarship
🔸$1,000 Neil Alford, Jr. Agricultural Scholarship
🔸$1,000 Phyllis Martin Nursing Scholarship
🔸$1,000 Orville Augsburger/Dorene Oehler Scholarship
🔸$1,000 David Eckhardt Scholarship
