Non emergency questions? Message us ABOUT US! On September 1, 1939 the Hopwood Volunteer Fire Department was founded, it was later Organized on June 21, 1942 and then Chartered October 6, 1942. The fire department started out as a one engine company, where the engine was housed in a local black smith's shop. Later the fire department purchased land on the South Union side of Route 40 in historic Hopwood, Pennsylvania. This is the same location where the fire department is still located. In 2010, the station underwent a major renovation that expanded the space for our apparatus. Over the years our department has grown, we currently have around 40 active members. Our station runs 8 pieces of apparatus; three heavy pumpers, one 2500 pumper/tanker, a heavy rescue, a mini pumper/rescue, a utility pick up truck and a 6x6 UTV. We cover portions of both South Union and North Union townships. Each area has its own various make up of buildings and homes. This includes a mix of residential, commercial and industrial buildings. We provide coverage for the Sheepskin trail and Lick Hollow park and trail. Our department runs an average of 400 incidents a year, varying from emergency and non emergency calls, these calls range from: Structure Fires (Residential and Commercial), Vehicle Accidents, Vehicle Fires, Automatic Fire Alarms, Wild land Fires, Physical Rescues, Public Service Calls (Trees Down, Wires Down, Flooded Basements, Flooded Roadways), and EMS Assist.
