"My baby HATES tummy time and I'm worried about her development!"

Tummy time struggles are one of the most common concerns new parents bring to our practice, and here's what I want you to know: if your baby consistently fights tummy time, there might be a physical reason.

Tummy time should feel comfortable for babies when their spines and nervous systems are functioning properly. When it's consistently distressing, we need to ask WHY.

Common physical reasons babies resist tummy time:
• Neck restrictions that make lifting their head difficult or uncomfortable
• Upper back tension that prevents comfortable positioning
• Nervous system irritation that makes the position feel overwhelming
• Digestive discomfort that worsens when lying on their tummy

Think about it: if holding your head up felt uncomfortable or required extra effort, you'd avoid it too!

The good news? These issues respond beautifully to gentle infant chiropractic care. When tiny restrictions are removed, babies often go from hating tummy time to enjoying it within just a few adjustments.

Tummy time is crucial for proper development - it strengthens neck muscles, promotes motor skills, and prevents flat head syndrome. When babies can do it comfortably, they naturally get the development benefits they need.

"I haven't slept through the night in months. I fall asleep fine, but I wake up at 3 AM with my mind racing!" 🧠

This exhausted mama (who didn't want to be pictured, so here's exhausted Mama Dr Katie 😅) perfectly described what so many adults experience during stressful seasons. Physical tension and nervous system overload manifest as middle-of-the-night wake-ups.

Here's what happens: when your nervous system is stuck in "fight or flight" mode from chronic stress, it has trouble maintaining deep sleep cycles. Your body interprets physical tension as a threat that needs monitoring.

After addressing her upper cervical alignment and teaching some stress management techniques, she texted me two weeks later: "I've slept through the night for 5 nights in a row. I feel like a different person!"

Signs stress and physical tension are disrupting your sleep:
• Falling asleep easily but waking between 2-4 AM
• Mind racing with tomorrow's to-do list when you wake up
• Physical tension or pain that's worse at night

Back-to-school season disrupts sleep patterns for the WHOLE family, not just the kids. New schedules, increased stress, and overstimulation affect everyone's ability to wind down properly.

But here's what most families don't realize: sleep isn't just about being tired enough. Quality sleep requires optimal nervous system function to properly cycle through sleep phases.

When spinal misalignments create nervous system interference, even exhausted bodies struggle to achieve deep, restorative sleep.

Signs your family's sleep issues might have a physical component:
• Taking a long time to fall asleep despite being tired
• Frequent wake-ups throughout the night
• Morning stiffness or pain after sleeping

WORK-FROM-HOME PARENTS: Your "office" setup is destroying your spine!

Between Zoom calls, emails, and managing kids' school needs, many parents are spending more time hunched over computers than ever - often in less-than-ideal setups.

Your dining room table wasn't designed to be a full-time office. That couch laptop setup? Your neck will remember it for years.

Signs your home office is harming your health:
• Forward head posture that's getting worse
• Neck and shoulder tension that builds throughout the day
• Lower back pain from inadequate chair support
• Headaches that start during computer work
• Wrist and hand discomfort from poor keyboard positioning

Here's the brutal truth: poor ergonomics don't just cause temporary discomfort. They create long-term postural changes that become harder to correct over time.
