For many years, people with weakened immune systems—especially cancer patients who develop neutropenia during treatment—were told to follow a strict “neutropenic diet.” This eating plan was meant to reduce exposure to bacteria in food. Over 53 million Americans provide unpaid care to family members, friends, and neighbors, often while balancing other responsibilities.
