Pheweeee! Y'all it was a heck of a day. The phones didn't stop ringing from open until close. We ran all over the county and gave away a record amount of items to people for the community pantry with 24 families coming in for assistance whether it was food, straw, kennels or other needed items. I began the pantry after I saw and heard so many saying they were surrendering their beloved animals because they had lost their job or came on hard times and they were having issues feeding their animal(s). Now, two and a half years after creating the pantry it has blossomed into a way we can help families and keep up with these families who have needs. We hope when you think of ways you want to help the community, you choose to help our pantry which is 100 percent funded by community members for their fellow neighbors. Thank you for growing it to what it is today. Just remember it is available to residents every 60 days with proof of residency. It's to assist and help those who use it make it through hard times with their fur family.
Our numbers: SEVEN owner surrender dogs, TWO stray dogs (ONE additional we reunited in the field due to a microchip.) we had SEVEN dogs adopted, ONE owner reclaim dog and ONE dog rescued by Leo's Life. We had THREE cats adopted.
This had us ending the day with the same amount of dogs IN as OUT. It was an absolute fight the entire day and finally toward the late afternoon adopters trickled in. Thank you!
Please keep your outdoor animals warm and loved. They MUST have usable water which isn't frozen over which they can drink. Make accommodations to protect those who are most vulnerable and check on your elderly neighbors to make sure they're safe and warm during this weather event. Drip your water starting tonight until at least Monday so you don't experience pipes bursting.
Thank you to each donor who brought us needed items. Lastly, thank you to our friends who came out today to try to help us prepare the shelter for the weather. A huge thank you to Kathy, Jeff, Cherry and Linda Bratton for all their hard work today for our animals.
