NPMC recognizes Stephanie Afeld for receiving the PHIL Award, a national honor that celebrates excellence in respiratory care.

This award is a testament to Stephanie’s unwavering dedication, compassion, and clinical expertise in serving patients with respiratory illnesses.

The PHIL Award, short for Pulmonary Health and Illnesses of the Lungs, was established in 2006 by The FACES Foundation in memory of Philip C. Lamka, who passed away from Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD). His wife, Sharman Lamka, created the award to honor the “unsung heroes” of respiratory therapy: those who understand that each breath matters.

As an Emergency Department nurse, Dariann has been recognized for her empathetic care and her ability to meet patients where they are, often in their most vulnerable moments. Her dedication extends beyond the bedside. She has shown remarkable commitment to the nursing profession through her educational journey, advancing from tech to LPN to RN while being employed at NPMC.
