Please see the attached press release for a training scheduled on May 17, 2026. We will remind the public again on this date. We appreciate the public’s cooperation and understanding while we conduct a much needed training exercise.
On May 17, between 7:30 AM and 6:00 PM, a comprehensive Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) training exercise will take place at the Houlton Fairgrounds. This large-scale Emergency Medical Services (EMS) training will involve coordinated participation from police, fire, and EMS agencies across the region.
Residents and visitors should be aware that there will be a significant presence of emergency vehicles and personnel throughout the area. The exercise will also include actors simulating injuries, the use of blank gunfire, and loud music to replicate realistic emergency conditions. This is only a training exercise. There is no real emergency. Out of an abundance of caution and to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the training, the public is strongly encouraged to avoid the Houlton Fairgrounds and surrounding area for the
duration of the exercise on May 17. The training will be led by instructors Shelby Fenderson and Isaac Brown, who will oversee all operations and ensure a controlled and safe environment for participants.
This exercise is sponsored by Houlton Ambulance Service, with the cooperation and support of the Town of Houlton, Houlton Fair Association, Houlton Police Department, Houlton Fire Department, Patten Ambulance Service, Island Falls Ambulance, and the Region 2 Fire/EMS Program.
Mass casualty training is a critical component of emergency preparedness. By conducting
realistic, scenario-based exercises, EMS, fire, and law enforcement agencies strengthen their
ability to work seamlessly together during high-stress, complex incidents. These trainings
reinforce key skills such as triage, rapid patient assessment, field treatment, coordinated
communication, and efficient transport of patients to appropriate medical facilities.
While the hope is that such large-scale emergencies never occur, preparedness is essential. Regular joint training ensures that first responders are ready to provide the highest level of care when it matters most.
Houlton Ambulance Service remains committed to maintaining operational excellence through
continual training and collaboration with partner agencies. The goal is always to be prepared,
responsive, and capable of delivering life-saving care under any circumstances. Following the exercise, members of the public are invited to visit the Houlton Ambulance Service page for photos and highlights from the training.
The Houlton Ambulance Service and its partner agencies thank the public for their cooperation
and understanding during this important training event.
