I am a wife and mother of three children. I graduated from Nicholls State University with a bachelor’s degree in nursing in 2007. I have 15 years of maternal newborn experience and am certified in maternal newborn nursing care. I worked in a level 3 NICU for 7 years learning how to take care of babies that needed the most specialized attention. Working on the maternity unit, I found my passion for
helping mothers breastfeed. I decided to become certified in lactation in 2016. Working in lactation, I learned so much that could have helped me with my own breastfeeding experiences. I breastfed my own children, but never made it to my goal. I struggled with pain and low milk supply. My family did not have the knowledge to support me to meet my breastfeeding goals. I realized how important prenatal education is for the mother, but above all how much better the breastfeeding experience can be when you can educate the family. Support is needed to be ongoing before delivery, in the hospital, but also after discharge. As a nurse working in the hospital, I focused a large portion of my education on what to expect at home and how to take care of the new baby and mother after delivery. It can be very overwhelming once home with a new baby and that is why in-home help is so beneficial. A new addition means changes for everyone, including parents, grandparents and big brothers and sisters. I am here to support families during this wonderful and delicate time after their baby is born. The postpartum period, also called the 4th trimester, families benefit from extra care and support as they shift into their new roles as parents. I offer breastfeeding assistance. Breastfeeding your new baby can feel like you need an extra set of hands. Sometimes we are not sure if the baby is nursing well or maybe it isn’t comfortable. Having a lactation consultant come to your home can help you reach your breastfeeding goal. I will help you get comfortable in your space. I assess a feeding and do a pre and post feeding weight on the baby to make sure your baby is getting enough milk. We discuss feeding plans that are fully customizable to fit your family. I also offer bottle feeding support. Sometimes babies need a little help with feedings. I will show you techniques that will help your baby to transfer milk safely and decrease colic while bottle feeding. The change into new parenthood is exciting but can also be overwhelming. A lot of hands are needed with a new baby. I am here to help with baby’s laundry, prepare meals, and home organization. I assist with soothing techniques and explain normal newborn behavior. I provide emotional support and listen to the needs of new moms and dads. Having someone to talk with and even have a laugh together with can do so much for a new parent! I am here to understand what each member needs and help the entire family adjust and settle in. All families can benefit when having a postpartum doula with them during this special time!
