May is Arthritis Awareness Month, and while not all types of arthritis can be prevented, there are things we can do to keep our joints happy and healthy as we age!

Here are a few simple ways to help prevent arthritis:

✅ Keep moving – regular exercise helps keep joints flexible
✅ Maintain a healthy weight – less stress on your joints
✅ Protect your joints – avoid overuse and use proper techniques when lifting
✅ Eat a joint-friendly diet – think omega-3s, leafy greens, and calcium-rich foods
✅ Stay hydrated – water helps cushion and protect your joints
✅ Quit smoking - smoking can damage connective tissues, which can increase arthritis pain and potentially contribute to its development
✅ Manage stress - chronic stress can worse arthritis symptoms - practice stress reducing techniques like deep breathing, yoga, or mediation
✅ Don’t ignore pain – early care can help prevent long-term issues
