David’s House
I am a nurse practitioner working in a local clinic that serves the underserved and chronically mentally ill and those with substance abuse disorders. There is an urgent need in our community for such a facility, and a sister agency nearby offers primary care, dental and psychiatric care. The residents will have 24 hour supervision and a home base for up to 6 months in order to become rehabilitated and either linked for needed services or to gain meaningful employment. This would keep these gentlemen off the streets and working toward self sufficiency.
It is very very difficult to be clean and sober and maintain a job when you have nowhere to collect mail, shower and sleep safely. Housing then access to healthcare are primary.
We are already approved for 501(c)(3) status and have a corporation approved by the state of Louisiana.
There are various grants available for such purposes, but generally not until one has been established for a year. This agency was established in July of 2017 and we hope to open in the spring of 2018.
