Ophthalmic Technician/Scribe
Southern Eye Institute
NATURE OF DUTIES: The nature of the duties is to assist the physicians by providing direct patient care in areas of patient mobility, ophthalmic testing, and general support. Performs technical duties to assist the patients through ophthalmic testing in maintenance of healthcare delivery standards. Treats patients in a caring warm professional manner. Cooperates with all team leaders and co-workers.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Become proficient with EHR and Escribe.
- Work up patients in a manner proficient to the practice.
- Assist the doctor with any procedures needed in office.
- Coordinate specialist appointments.
- Assist with answering phone call and patient's questions with test results.
-Assist in staffing other clinics and departments when needed.

Throwback to June 25, 2015, when Dr. Kellum found a 4-inch heart worm between the conjunctiva and the sclera. Warning, the video is graphic!

This was one of the coolest days of my career. A patient came in complaining of eye pain. Her eye was very red with swelling of the conjunctiva and the eyelids. When I looked at her, I found a 4 inch worm coiled up in the space between her conjunctiva and the sclera (the white part of the eye). This is a video of me removing the worm. We don't know what kind of worm it is but the Public Health Dept. is coming tomorrow to collect it for identification. Warning, the video is graphic.
