Things I wish I would have known before giving birth..

Birth is one of the most physically demanding events our bodies will ever experience (duh). So whyyyy do we train for marathons, competitions, triathlons, but when it comes to birth, we expect to “just wing it?”

SOOO let’s talk Labor Stalls & Birth Prep…bc been there 🙋‍♀️ and here’s some info that I wish I knew 5 years ago

Labor can stall for different reasons:
1. Baby can be having a hard time engaging
2. The passageway that baby is descending through has tension and baby can have a hard time rotating through the pelvis
3. Hunger, hydration status, mental state, fatigue..the list goes on

BUT, the good news is that birth prep can help prepare your body (and baby) for the big day.

We are so busy throughout our pregnancies preparing for our babies to arrive, but we often neglect educating ourselves on how to best support our bodies through labor and delivery.
So, my goal is to change that and start normalizing birth prep to educate the mama’s out there on the changes we experience through pregnancy, proper pushing techniques, how to move our bodies to optimize labor and prevent stalls, and how to care for ourselves postpartum.

…stay tuned for a sample birth prep circuit !

🦴Listennnn, I’m sure everyone has seen their fav influencer or even a friend walking with a weighted vest.
While walking is great for your cardiovascular system and a weighted vest adds a bit more load and challenge, when it comes to building real bone density—especially during and after menopause—it’s not proven to be enough.⁣⁣Here’s why:⁣✅ Bones respond to high-impact or high-load strength✅ Walking—even weighted—produces repetitive, low-impact forces✅ To stimulate bone growth, you need progressive overload: squats, lunges, jumps, or lifting heavy things⁣💡 Research shows:➡️ Exercises that include multi-directional impact (like hopping, jumping, or lifting) are far more effective at improving bone mass➡️ Bones adapt to novel, challenging loads—not repetitive, gentle stress⁣🛑 So while a weighted vest is a nice start, it’s not a substitute for resistance training or impact loading.⁣⁣👉 Want a strong skeleton at every age?You need to lift, load, and jump.

Want to learn more about subjects like this ?? Join me for my perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause series, where we debunk myths and use evidence based research to improve symptoms and build strength!

Let’s Talk IT Band Pain
🎯 Hint: It’s probably not about the IT band itself...

If you’re foam rolling your IT band to no tomorrow, please know that you need a SIGNIFICANT amount of force to actually make a change..soooo, you can stop foam rolling and let’s get to the root cause of why she’s feeling a little nervy..

Your IT Band isn’t actually a muscle, it’s a band of fascia — and spoiler: it doesn’t “loosen up” from foam rolling.
🚨 Some reasons why you can be experiencing IT band pain?✔️ Weak glutes (especially glute med)✔️ Poor hip control or pelvic stability✔️ Weak or shortened adductors (heads up, just because a muscle is tight, doesn’t mean it’s strong!)✔️ Lack of mobility in hips or ankles

These are a couple of things that I MIGHT do (depending on your presentation—because therapy is not copy/paste, and what’s good for one person may not be what someone else needs)

✅ What to do instead:🔥 Strengthen hips & glutes🔥 Gradually progress your training🔥 Target upstream & downstream mobility and strength

💡 Remember: pain at the IT band is often a symptom, not the root cause.

📩 Have IT band pain, hip, knee, or pelvic pain?? Feel free to reach out with any questions you might have!

How I Approach Pelvic Floor Dysfunction Throughout Your Plan of Care 💥
At your initial evaluation, I don’t just dive into kegels or stretching, and boring mat exercises. You’ll get a comprehensive assessment, education, a home exercise program, and it’s always my goal to show MEANINGFUL change in symptoms on day one.
✨ Here’s what we go through in during your plan of care
🔍 Breathing patterns & Pressure Management — Are you belly breathing or holding your breath?🔍Anatomy Review — You’ll leave knowing how your pelvic floor works with organs surrounding it as well as other fun tidbits 🔍 Internal and external pelvic floor tone — Is it guarding or overactive?🔍 Nervous system state — Are you stuck in “fight or flight”?
🔍 Kinetic Chain Involvement
🔍 Home Exercise Program — not your average program..all programs are built for the individual.

💡 My goal? To understand why your pelvic floor is responding the way it is and build a plan that restores balance — not just strength, but, mobility, and safety.
📅 This treatment style applies to in person appts, virtual, or hybrid. DM me if you’re having questions !

I’m so excited to have joined the BirthFit Community and be able to offer these classes to our area.

Classes will be 2x/week for 4 weeks for each of the series.
PostPartum Series Classes will begin July 7, 2025 & Prenatal Series Classes will begin July 8, 2025.

Honestly, introducing movement/strength training and education around it to the women of our community is so important to me. I believe it’s so important to have a strong foundation to build off of, and with that you get the added bonus of the support of a community of women who are in similar walks of life.

I began this journey, because I felt like there was a lack of support/education throughout my two pregnancies and my postpartum journeys. My hope is to grow this community, while also providing education and support along the way.

Women should not be afraid to move throughout pregnancy, it might look a little different and include modifications, but exercise throughout pregnancy has so many benefits for mom and baby.

With that being said, postpartum healing can be difficult, as many moms feel the pressure of “bouncing back.” With the BirthFit Series, we will focus on healing timelines, listening to your body, and building a strong foundation to progressively strengthen over a healthy amount of time.

A little more about the programs:

- The Prenatal Series, is amazing because it will help educate on breath work, birth prep, pelvic floor considerations, and strength and conditioning training. I personally, enjoyed working out up until the day I delivered my babies. So, I want every mom to know that exercise is great for pregnancy! AND, bonus, pregnancy is a great time to start an exercise routine, even, if you’ve never had one.

- The PostPartum Series, is such a great tool for our community, as I know we could all use as much support as we can get as new mothers. This is a perfect blend of community, education, time for healing, and getting back into strength and conditioning training in a healthy way.

If you have any questions on if this is right for you, please feel free to reach out!

If you’re interested in signing up for either classes, please use the links below to fill out a brief survey so I can send out more information via email !
