If you’re headed down the shore for the first time this year during Memorial Day Weekend, the trauma outreach and prevention coordinators at Cooper, , and want to remind you how strong our Jersey waters can be!
🏖️ Even on calm-looking days, take these precautions so you can enjoy your time in the sun and sand.
🛟 Swim in front of a lifeguard, read posted flags/signs, and don’t push past fatigue.
🏊🏽 If you’re caught in a rip current: stay calm, float/tread water, and swim parallel to shore until you’re out of the current — then angle back in.
🌊 Never turn your back on waves: Enter feet first to avoid sudden drop-offs and keep your eyes on the water.
🚩 Listen for whistles and be aware of flags and posted signage. If conditions change, pack it up and head to the boardwalk.

Simple choices can make all the difference.

We’re here if you need us! In an emergency, call 9-1-1 immediately to reach your nearest emergency room.

Think a “mini‑stroke” can wait? It can’t.

A TIA (mini‑stroke) is a serious warning sign — not a minor event. Whether symptoms last minutes or hours, the signs of stroke and TIA are often the same. Acting quickly can save brain function and lives.

Remember to B.E.F.A.S.T.

🧠 Balance: Is the person experiencing a sudden loss of balance or coordination?
🧠 Eyes: Is the person having a sudden change in vision or trouble seeing?
🧠 Face drooping: Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop?
🧠 Arm weakness: Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?
🧠 Speech difficulty: Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Is their speech slurred or strange?
🧠 Time: If you observe any of these signs, call 911 right away.
