The World Council of Optometry (WCO) created and first celebrated this holiday in 1986 as a part of their mission to develop optometry on a global scale. This is reflected in this year’s theme for World Optometry Day: “A Shared Vision: Collaboration in Global Eye Care”.

Eye exams aren’t just about checking your eyesight, even if eyesight is one of the most common things checked. Many first signs of health conditions and disorders (not just ocular) can be found at optometry examinations, and exams act as a first step to diagnosis in many cases.
