Summer offers so many reasons to celebrate, and for many, it starts with a *pssssssssch!* — the cracking open of an ice-cold alcoholic bevvy. But beware: alcohol and the summer heat can create a dangerous cocktail if you’re not careful.

"Alcohol is a mild diuretic and dulls your perception, so you can start missing cues that you're thirsty, or your body temperature is rising. It's better to not drink in this type of weather, but if you're going to — match every alcoholic drink with at least the same volume of water. No exceptions,” says Sharon Mendez, a primary care physician assistant at Houston Methodist.

If you choose to drink, Mendez suggests sticking to lower-alcohol options, like low ABV beer and spritzers. Should you begin to feel lightheaded, stop immediately. Learn more: http://spr.ly/6181fKQwX
