If you have been in a relationship with a Covert Narcissist for years, it is likely that you have experienced psychological abuse, gaslighting, and manipulation over its entire course without even realizing what was happening or what was going on with you or them.
It is so subtle that it is difficult to comprehend and it even fools a victims physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, family and friends, and even courts. It can feel like you are all alone because it is so challenging to explain in a concise way the trauma that you have experienced. It's like slowly dying from a thousand paper cuts.
It is also likely that at the end of the relationship, over the course of many years most often, you finally discover what's happening and can establish a trend in order to name the circumstances you are experiencing.
Unfortunately it is at the end where the most damage is done. Where lives are destroyed, careers are ruined, people are imprisoned, or worse commit su***de, you may settle into depression, among many other consequences in being the victim of a covert narcissist. If you have experienced it you will know what I'm talking about.
The end is where the claws come out. They will create a smear campaign, secretly advertising and Marketing the victimhood status they have created for themselves, while accusing you of being crazy, an abuser, evil, anything to make you the bad guy.
And over the course of months towards the end they will contact everyone, your entire social Circle, to destroy your name so that you are isolated. After this, they will continue on to totally destroy and ruin your life in any way possible. They will use the legal system against you, they will alienate your children from you and your entire family, if you have them, they will potentially pursue broader forms of public libel and slander, they will actively try to ruin your career, pretty much any atrocity you can imagine.
Perhaps most frustrating, is that it's very difficult, almost impossible, to get anyone to believe you, because it seems so unreal that something like what you experienced could happen.
The Fallout almost always ends in near total Destruction of the victims life as it was. This is one of the most challenging circumstances to experience and one that I believe is among the most traumatic in our society today.
I believe that bringing awareness to people to help them identify what's happening to them earlier on, will allow them to hopefully avoid the disastrous ending that so many of us have experienced. I know how it felt to feel like you're going crazy. Even though everything that you've done indicates otherwise. I don't want anyone to ever feel this way. And unless people know about it, more and more people will suffer through these consequences.
It is my goal to help as many people as I can early on in relationships so that they can avoid tragic losses and create a new life filled with joy and happiness. I have read this book via Audible and for anyone who is experiencing or has experienced narcissistic abuse, I believe will benefit as it is a great source of information to help you wrap your mind around everything you've experienced.
Knowledge is power and with a disease such as covert narcissism, one that is nearly invisible to everyone in society, and often times even invisible to the victims themselves, it is vital that we improve awareness and have resources readily available to help those in need.
