🏊‍♂️ Suitable Sports:

Choose supportive footwear and protective gear when necessary
Stay hydrated and maintain a balanced diet to support overall health and recovery

👩‍⚕️ Consult with a Rheumatologist: Before starting any new sport or exercise regimen, it's important for children with rheumatic diseases to consult with their rheumatologist. They can provide guidance on suitable activities and any precautions to take based on your child's individual condition.

Today, I want to share a heartwarming patient transformation story. 🌟
I just finished a visit with one of my older juvenile arthritis patients, who's about to transition to adult care.

Diagnosed with polyarticular JIA at 9, he's now 18 and heading off to college. Our journey together started with multiple failed biologics, but for the past two years, he's been in remission with the right combination of meds.

As part of the transition process, I quiz my teens on their disease course and therapies to ensure they're prepared for adult care. This patient passed with flying colors!

Transitioning to adult care can be challenging, but with the right preparation, my patients are ready to take on the world. 🌍💪

Hey everyone, it's Dr. Saimun Singla from Rheum to Grow in Houston, Texas! 🌟

Solve a Pediatric Rheumatology Case with Me!
Let's dive into an interesting case I recently encountered. This is a 2-year-old girl who came into my clinic with 6 weeks of a limp. Upon examination, she had swelling in her right knee and right 4th toe. Additionally, she had a rash on her back that looked like this. Despite these symptoms, all her lab tests were normal with no evidence of inflammation.

Diagnosis: Juvenile Psoriatic Arthritis
The combination of the back rash and swelling of the digit (known as dactylitis) led to the diagnosis of juvenile psoriatic arthritis, a type of juvenile arthritis.

🩺 Swelling: Right knee and right 4th toe
🩺 Rash: Characteristic back rash
🩺 Normal Labs: No evidence of inflammation

Juvenile psoriatic arthritis can be challenging to diagnose, especially when lab results don't show inflammation. However, clinical symptoms like dactylitis and specific rashes are crucial for accurate diagnosis.
Early diagnosis and treatment are essential in managing juvenile psoriatic arthritis to prevent joint damage and improve the quality of life. Integrative approaches, including conventional treatments and complementary therapies, can be highly effective.

If you have any questions about this case or juvenile arthritis, feel free to reach out. Together, we can learn more and support our little warriors!

It can be daunting to know how to prepare for your first visit to any doctor. There could be years of medical records, a laundry list of medications, and so much more. The goal is to present this information in a way that will help the doctor help your child! So, just what do you need to bring?

🌈 #1. Your child's pertinent medical records. Sometimes this means a physical copy that you have access to, or sometimes it means calling other doctors your child may have seen, and asking them to send the files over via fax.

🌈 #2. A list of symptoms can be extremely helpful. This is called symptom tracking, and gives information such as when the symptoms began, the triggers, alleviators, etc. I can help you better understand Symptom Tracking if you don't already know how to do it.

🌈 #3. Pictures! Take pictures of any rashes, swollen joints, red eyes, or any other visible symptoms on your child when they occur. They might not always be present when you go to the doctor, and having a picture of what it looked like can be very helpful.

🌈 #4. Bring a list, pictures of bottles, or the bottles themselves of the medications/supplements your child might be taking. These can be vital in knowing how to adjust your child's treatment regimen.

🌈 #5. Lastly, don't forget to jot down any questions that come to mind. It can be hard to remember everything you thought about when you were planning the doctor's visit.

🌈 Being as prepared as you can with your child's medical history, and coming in with questions can help you make sure you get the most out of your visit to Rheum-To-Grow!
