1. Backbends can improve your posture.
2. Backbends stretch your abdominal muscles.
3. Backbends open your chest, helping you breathe more easily.
4. Backbends improve blood oxygen levels.
5. Backbends are often referred to as heart openers because they release tension in the chest and stimulate the blood flow around the heart and vagus nerve, increasing feelings of compassion and connection.

Sounds great right?! 🙌🏼

🤔Now think about how most of us spend our days, often hunched forward; while driving, sitting at a desk, or looking at screens.

By consistently practicing backbends, you’ll build strength and flexibility along your spine. This allows your neck to better support your head, and you can prevent much of that achiness and tension that happens from prolonged sitting that many of us can relate to. 🫣

🎉 The good news is there is a backbend for everyone. You can start in a beginner stage and transition to intermediate or advanced over time if it suits your body. It is important to always practice backbends slowly and safely. To prevent compression into the lower back, elongate your spine from your tailbone all the way through the crown of your head.

Our Story

Years ago, founder and visionary of Soul Tribes, Alexandra Charles, dreamt of a studio that combined her big loves: meditation, yoga, and community.

Alexandra found yoga to help heal a lot of injuries she had due to being a professional dancer her whole life. Meditation helped reduce a lot of the mental anguishes she endured through those very competitive years. Seeing the practice of yoga and meditation change and help heal her body, mind, and life, as well as the loving supportive community of classes, the idea of Soul Tribes yoga and meditation was planted.

As the idea bloomed, the creation of Soul Tribes came together and Alexandra is beyond excited to share her vision with the community of Houston Texas.

At Soul Tribes we believe we all need different things at different times in our lives. Some days we need the push and the challenge of physical practice and sometimes we need to bring it all in, let go, breathe and just be. Whatever day it is for you and whatever vibes you are in, our community, our tribes, are something that can remind us we aren’t alone and going through it by ourselves.
