💛Half Splits, or Ardha Hanumanasana, is a stretch for the whole body that can cater to most bodies as a beginner friendly pose. 🐒

✨The benefits to the lower body include:

-Stretches hamstrings & glutes.
-Relieves sciatic pain & piriformis syndrome.
-Lengthen tissues around the knee joints.

✨The benefits to the upper body include:

-Stretch the lower back.
-Improve posture.
- Encourage diaphragmatic breathing.

💫Variation options for Half Splits:
This pose can be practiced with blocks (as pictured above by Sarah) at any height to help lengthen the spine and stretch deeper into the outer hip muscles. You may like to always use blocks, or explore this pose without blocks, making sure you keep your spine straight and avoid rounding the shoulders. 😊

The front toes stay flexing up towards the ceiling to lengthen the back of the leg, but you can always allow a slight bend in the front knee to release tension in the hamstring (back of thigh). 😌

You know yoga is good for the body, but did you know it’s good for the brain too? 🧠

Yoga asanas are a form of bilateral stimulation.
🦋Bilateral stimulation is the use of a stimulus to both sides of the body, often in a rhythmic way, alternating left and right sides. This stimulation to the body activates both hemispheres of the brain, which in turn aids in the processing of information & regulation of thoughts & emotions through activating the parasympathetic nervous system. 👐🏽

💫Cross-lateral movements, such as twists, are a great way to stimulate both brain hemispheres & calm the nervous system.
Sun Salutations are another great form of BLS!

Our Story

Years ago, founder and visionary of Soul Tribes, Alexandra Charles, dreamt of a studio that combined her big loves: meditation, yoga, and community.

Alexandra found yoga to help heal a lot of injuries she had due to being a professional dancer her whole life. Meditation helped reduce a lot of the mental anguishes she endured through those very competitive years. Seeing the practice of yoga and meditation change and help heal her body, mind, and life, as well as the loving supportive community of classes, the idea of Soul Tribes yoga and meditation was planted.

As the idea bloomed, the creation of Soul Tribes came together and Alexandra is beyond excited to share her vision with the community of Houston Texas.

At Soul Tribes we believe we all need different things at different times in our lives. Some days we need the push and the challenge of physical practice and sometimes we need to bring it all in, let go, breathe and just be. Whatever day it is for you and whatever vibes you are in, our community, our tribes, are something that can remind us we aren’t alone and going through it by ourselves.
