There is a reason why Ethos Wellness sought to create safe containers for individuals seeking recovery from mental health disorders and co-occurring issues. It is because a safe space of community, connection, and empathy are some of the most powerful catalysts of holistic healing.

And, we certainly know this to be true of overcoming shame, specifically - it simply cannot survive within an environment of connection, kindness, empathy, and shared experiences.

On the contrary, shame thrives in secrecy, silence, and isolation. It can make us feel small, inherently flawed, and doomed to failure.

When we struggle with mental health disorders and co-occurring issues, shame can be particularly devastating because it re-shapes how we view ourselves. Additionally, human beings are hardwired to need connection with others; however, shame can make us feel unworthy of support + care. This often exacerbates already difficult or traumatic experiences.

If you're struggling with shame, you may feel:

🔹Fearful.
🔹Withdrawn.
🔹Deeply lonely.
🔹Disconnected.
🔹Apart from, rather than a part of.
🔹Like you are the only person on earth struggling with this.

If this resonates with you, please know that you are not alone - not even close. Shame is practically a universal emotion, so the chances of encountering someone who 'gets it' are greater than you might think.

Understanding the framework of shame helps us realize why creating visceral safety in relationships with others is essential for healing. Safe relationships + connections create containers which empower us to push back against the false narratives we have attached to ourselves.

If you or a loved one is searching for a compassionate community and safe space for healing, reach out to us today!
