i am starting to see pollen anthers on the ground but, there are still plenty of them still in the trees. The oaks and ashes should be finished soon. The pecan trees and ligustrums will start soon. We should have about 2 more weeks of tree pollen. If you are having symptoms we can help. Don't suffer unnecessarily.

Looking at the pollen counts from Houston health department this morning is interesting. On Friday the tree pollen count was 800, mold count 7000. This morming after the rain the tree pollen count was 400 and the mold count was 14,000. So we traded high pollen counts for high mold counts. This is typical. Knowing what you are allergic to is helpful, it helps to predict when your symptoms will flare.

The rain this weekend will knock the pollen out of the airso tree allergic people should get a break for the next few days. Enjoy the lower pollen counts.

Oak pollen count almost doubled compared to yesterday. If this is a typical tree season that means we have about 6 weeks longer with elevated tree pollen counts. If you are having symptoms, please come get help. You don't need to suffer needlessly. There is a lot we can do to minimize the misery.

Went to the ranch last weekend. It is very dry in the hill country. The cedar trees are still releasing pollen in large amounts. That's why everyone's nose and eyes are itching. Nasal steroid sprays will help with both nose and eye symptoms, but they must be used daily. Nasal steroids are preventives, not symptoms relievers.

Driving in today I noticed several trees that are now pollenating. Checking the Houston health department pollen counts show that cedar, oak, ash and elm are all high today. If you haven't started your nasal steroid spray start it now. Something else I was reminded of, if running your car A/C select the recycle cabin air mode. This decreases the amount of pollen that gets into your car.

Winter usually results in eczema flaring up. The short days, dry air in doors and out causes skin to dry out. Dry skin itches and the eczema is off to the races. Moisturizers are important to getting control of eczema. My favorite moisturizer is vaseline petrolium jelly. Vaseline is pure petrolatum, no fragrance, no color, no SD 40 alcohol. If your eczema is flaring don't wait! Come see me and we will get it taken care of.

We all survived another Friday 13th. This rain over the weekend should knock down the Cedar pollen coming from Austin. That should help a lot of people. The rest of the trees are not producing pollen yet. Probably due to the freezes we have had lately. Keep using your nasal steroid sprays as preventative if you are not on allergy injections. Enjoy the beautiful weather we are having.

I am surprised the cedar pollen counts are still high this late in February. The rest of the trees have not even put out shoots yet. Pollen is probably a few weeks away. Start your flonase now.

One month ago I was very excited about a new biologic agent, Rhapsido. It was released for chronic urticaria. I tried it on 2 patients with chronic urticaria. It worked like magic. Immagine if you had had itchy hives all over your body everyday for 2 years. No medicines had helped. Then you take 1 Rhapsido tablet and within a few hours your hives and itching are completely gone. I got so excited I decided to try it on other allergic conditions. Theoretically, the mechanism of action of Rhapsido should have worked on any allergy based problem. Sadly, Rhapsido did not help these other allergic conditions. Maybe it was just dosing. We will have to wait and see.

Cedar pollen is still high. The other trees have not started to bloom yet. Most tress are still bare branches at this point. In a few weeks we will start to see buds coming out, after this pollen anthers, then leaves.

The office will be closed tomorrow January 26,2026. Years ago we made it policy that if CFISD closed due to weather we would to. I would hate to have a patient or staff member hurt in a car wreck trying to get to the office. Have a safe day, stay warm.
