Midweek Meditation - The Complete Yogic Breath
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the prevalence of stress has had significant repercussions on individuals' mental and physical well-being. The pandemic has caused higher levels of trauma, grief, anxiety and isolation, job loss, and financial hardship, and these stressors have increased the risk for chronic diseases. These effects have exacerbated health disparities in underserved communities, especially communities of color.
ISH has been working to address health disparities and meet health needs through our FaithHealth Initiatives for vaccine equity and community mental health, bringing together faith communities to empower individuals with tools to reduce stress, heal the underlying trauma, and promote overall health and well-being.
To examine the immediate and long-term consequences of COVID-19 on mental health, ISH Director of Programs Cyrus Wirls met with mind-body facilitator and community leader Sister Mama Sonya to hear her insights and experiences.
