When they ask me what I do and who I do it for?! There is a debt owed to Black women.
A debt due to Anarcha, Betsy, Lucy and the unnamed enslaved Black women that J. Marion Sims performed experiments on, without anesthesia, to develop gynecological surgeries and tools. They are rightfully memorialized in Montgomery, AL as the āMothers of Gynecology.ā There is a debt is owed to Henrietta Lacks, the source of the HeLa cell line, one of the most important cell lines in medical research to this day. Johns Hopkins is erecting the Henrietta Lacks Building on their campus, but what are posthumous buildings to the women who built this country?
There is a debt owed us, as the descendants of seemingly expendable Black bodies. Black bodies that were Americaās largest financial assetābodies that quite literally built America from a fledgling agricultural economy to one of the largest industrial powers in the world. As the authors of Reproductive Justice point out, āThe fertility of the enslaved woman was an essential, exploitable, colonial resource. Her pregnancies, whether the result of rape or love or something else, engrossed the holdings of her owner.ā Americaās earliest infrastructure and commodities including cotton, tobacco, and fāing PEOPLE, arguably an entire labor market āwas built on the backs of Black women.
So where are we today? We are dying during or shortly after bring new life into the world, and itās preventable. What are you doing to protect the safety and care of Black women and girls?

Posted @withregram ⢠@mamastefit 3ļøā£ ways to use a birth ball during labor to help open your pelvis!
When trying to open the top of the pelvis, or help baby enter into the pelvis, you can spread the knees wide and rock back and forth, rounding in the back.
This prompts external rotation of the femurs is going to open the top of the pelvis more side to side.
And rounding in the back prompts a posterior pelvic tilt which opens the top of the pelvis more front to back.
Next, we can focus on opening the middle of the pelvis where baby is rotating.
We can do this with a half kneeling lunge, and rocking back-and-forth. Or swaying a side to side with the hips.
The asymmetrical movements help to open the midpelvis diagonally which facilities with babies rotation.
