What’s one of the most common challenges for therapists?

Ending sessions ON TIME.

This isn’t usually an issue of discipline or time management, but rather compassion.

Some of the reasons you may go over time:
🕛 A compelling or emotional moment arises late in the session
🕛 You’re hesitant to interrupt a client’s flow or fear causing rupture
🕛 You want to "be flexible" or avoid seeming rigid
🕛 You lose track of time while deeply engaged in the work
🕛 Clients regularly linger or test the time boundary

When you look at this list, how many apply to you? If you’re ready to explore this pattern on a deeper level, start with the above prompts.

Are you a PractiSage member? I’d love to hear your reflections in our online community for support, validation, and connection.

When I think about creating the right therapy office, I think beyond how it looks—I think about how it feels.

A therapy space should feel calm, supportive, and grounding. It’s where people come to be vulnerable, to reflect, and to heal. The environment matters more than we sometimes realize.

Thoughtful design helps:
🛋️ Build safety and trust
🛋️ Reduce anxiety before conversations begin
🛋️ Create focus and presence during sessions

Soft lighting, comfortable seating, calming colors, natural elements, and a clutter-free layout all work together to send a simple message: you’re safe here.
