Title: The Anatomy of a U-Turn: From Bo***ge to Breakthrough
Focus: Repentance as psychological and spiritual liberation.
Friends, in my years as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), I have sat with many people in the “darkest abyss”—racked with guilt, anxiety, and the consequences of self-destructive patterns. Often, these aren’t just bad habits; they are strongholds, what the Bible calls living under the dominion of darkness, or “the devil”.
We often treat sin as just a “weakness” or a “dysfunctional behavior.” But as a therapist, I have learned that true healing—the kind that lasts—rarely happens without a spiritual U-turn.
🛐What is True Repentance?
Repentance is not just feeling guilty because you got caught or because you hate the consequences. In Greek, metanoia means a total change of mind, heart, and direction. It is an unconditional surrender to God—moving from a self-willed life to a God-centered life.
It’s the moment you stop blaming your past, your parents, or your circumstances, and you say, “I am responsible, and I am turning away from this”.
Stopping the “Satanic Suckerpunch”
⚡️ The enemy wants you to believe a lie: that your sin is too big, that you are too far gone, or that change takes “eons of eternity.” Elder Jeffrey R. Holland famously said, “It takes exactly as long to repent as it takes you to say, ‘I’ll change’—and mean it”.
⚡️Living for the devil means living in a cycle of toxic patterns—addiction, rage, selfishness, or constant fear. It means using your mind to obsess over what the enemy throws at you rather than focusing on the truth.
“From Chains ⛓️ to Freedom ⛓️💥”
In the therapy room, I can give you tools. I can help you understand your triggers. But only God can break the spiritual chains of addiction and toxic behavior.
🛐Submit to God first: You cannot resist the enemy if you haven’t surrendered your “will” to God.
🛐Exchange your burden: Repentance is a “beautiful exchange”—you give God your toxic, broken habits, and He gives you a new mind and a new heart.
✝️Turn to the Savior, and let Him take you from the bo***ge of the old, into the freedom of the new.
