Title: The Anatomy of a U-Turn: From Bo***ge to Breakthrough

Focus: Repentance as psychological and spiritual liberation.

Friends, in my years as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), I have sat with many people in the “darkest abyss”—racked with guilt, anxiety, and the consequences of self-destructive patterns. Often, these aren’t just bad habits; they are strongholds, what the Bible calls living under the dominion of darkness, or “the devil”.

We often treat sin as just a “weakness” or a “dysfunctional behavior.” But as a therapist, I have learned that true healing—the kind that lasts—rarely happens without a spiritual U-turn.

🛐What is True Repentance?
Repentance is not just feeling guilty because you got caught or because you hate the consequences. In Greek, metanoia means a total change of mind, heart, and direction. It is an unconditional surrender to God—moving from a self-willed life to a God-centered life.
It’s the moment you stop blaming your past, your parents, or your circumstances, and you say, “I am responsible, and I am turning away from this”.
Stopping the “Satanic Suckerpunch”

⚡️ The enemy wants you to believe a lie: that your sin is too big, that you are too far gone, or that change takes “eons of eternity.” Elder Jeffrey R. Holland famously said, “It takes exactly as long to repent as it takes you to say, ‘I’ll change’—and mean it”.

⚡️Living for the devil means living in a cycle of toxic patterns—addiction, rage, selfishness, or constant fear. It means using your mind to obsess over what the enemy throws at you rather than focusing on the truth.

“From Chains ⛓️ to Freedom ⛓️‍💥”
In the therapy room, I can give you tools. I can help you understand your triggers. But only God can break the spiritual chains of addiction and toxic behavior.

🛐Submit to God first: You cannot resist the enemy if you haven’t surrendered your “will” to God.

🛐Exchange your burden: Repentance is a “beautiful exchange”—you give God your toxic, broken habits, and He gives you a new mind and a new heart.

✝️Turn to the Savior, and let Him take you from the bo***ge of the old, into the freedom of the new.

Giving our kids to God is both an act of trust and a healthy relational posture. It acknowledges that while parents are deeply responsible caregivers, we are not the ultimate source of our children’s identity, safety, or future—God is. This surrender helps parents release anxiety, control, and fear, allowing us to parent with greater emotional regulation, humility, and attunement. By entrusting our children to God, we model secure attachment rooted in faith, demonstrating that love can be steadfast without being possessive, and guidance can be firm without being driven by fear.

I stand before you today as someone who should not be here by human standards. I was a crash out—angry, reckless, self-destructive, making choices that hurt myself and the people I loved. I tried to outrun my pain, numb it, fight it, and deny it, but none of that brought peace. What I didn’t know then was that I wasn’t just broken—I was disconnected from truth, from healthy relationships, and from God.

Scripture says, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” I didn’t find God because I had it together; I found Him because I didn’t. Through conviction, grace, and people who refused to give up on me, my life slowly began to change. Healing wasn’t instant. It was messy. It required accountability, humility, and a willingness to let God reshape not just my behavior, but my heart.

Today, as a faith-based Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I sit with people in the very places I once tried to escape—pain, conflict, shame, and fear. I don’t come as someone above them, but as someone who understands that transformation is possible. I believe therapy can be holy ground, a place where faith and clinical wisdom work together, where generational cycles are broken, and where God restores what seemed lost. My story is proof that no one is too far gone, and my calling is to walk alongside others as they discover that healing, redemption, and new life are still available to them.

As a faith-based LMFT, my superpower is creating a sacred, emotionally safe space where clinical excellence and spiritual wisdom meet, allowing clients to feel deeply seen, heard, and grounded; I integrate evidence-based therapy with faith in a way that avoids spiritual bypassing, brings clarity to relational and attachment patterns, and reframes pain through meaning, hope, and restoration, while balancing compassion with strong boundaries to foster healing, resilience, and renewed connection in individuals, couples, and families.
