Should you give a pacifier to your baby?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Pacifiers will not harm your baby. In fact, there is some evidence that pacifiers may help reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Breast feeding purist recommend to not use a pacifier since it could cause ni**le confusion. However, I believe that if you use the correct one that should not happen. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Your baby has a sucking reflex and needs to suck in order to calm themselves when stressed. Some babies are great at finding their fingers to do that themselves and others have a harder time at this.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My personal opinion is that it is easier to throw away a pacifier once your are ready. However, it is a lot harder to get rid of thumb sucking. Therefore, I do recommend pacifiers to my patients.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

If your baby just isn’t that much of a “sucker,” he may not need to be soothed by sucking on a pacifier at all. Just be thankful that there’s one less thing to keep track of during the day, and just consider offering one as he is falling asleep. When do pacifier use and thumb and finger sucking become a problem?

If your child sucks strongly on a pacifier beyond 2 to 4 years of age, this behavior may affect the shape of his mouth or how his teeth are lining up

Why are we different?

“Concierge” Medicine is growing rapidly throughout the country. It entails limiting the practice to a much smaller patient base, so that each patient receives a far greater level of service. With a much smaller patient base, at Concierge Pediatrics of Houston your doctor is able to schedule far fewer patients per day than the typical 30-40 patients per day often seen in most pediatric practices. Therefore, there is no wait for an appointment and there is no time spent in a waiting room. The appointment also lasts as long as necessary, until all relevant issues have been properly addressed.

Another feature included in our Direct Primary Care model of practice is that calls during and after hours are answered by your doctor. There is no answering service personnel to try to explain the child’s problem to and no surrogate advice-givers. In addition, if your child’s condition warrants urgent evaluation as determined by your doctor, you will be seen regardless of the day of the week. There are no more “convenience” visits to the emergency room. The only emergency room visits are due to true emergencies that cannot be handled in an office setting. The dynamics of this practice also enables us to focus more on wellness and disease prevention than most pediatric practices. Concierge Pediatrics of Houston is perfect for the family who is looking for immediate access to their pediatrician with an affordable fee, and would rather spend an hour with their doctor and not an hour in the waiting room.
