Strong day in the OR with a diverse case load of routine and advanced procedures 💪🏻

This patient is undergoing a spinal cord stimulator (SCS) trial to help with persistent back pain after multiple back surgeries. They will wear this device for 1 week as a “test” to see if it helps improve their pain/functionality. If so we will discuss more long term options at their next appointment!

💥 Minimally Invasive Sacroiliac Fusion💥

Sacroiliac (SI) joint pain is one of the most common causes of lower back pain - especially in patients that have had prior lower back surgery. Patients will generally describe a chronic, achey lower back pain that may also move into the upper portion of their butt cheek 🍑 SI pain is usually made worse with activities that require prolonged sitting (sedentary jobs, driving or flying long distances)

After conservative therapy (PT, NSAIDs) has failed we can look to simple X-ray guided injections of the SI joint. If these are successful certain patients may qualify for a much longer lasting form of SI joint relief via a minimally invasive fusion using an allograft implant 🤓

🎥 Lumbar MRI 🎥

Check out this quick video that highlights one component of a lumbar MRI and how docs can utilize advanced imaging to specifically tailor their patients’ treatment plan 🎯

After a patient completes a MRI I make sure to have them follow up for an *in-person* review of the images (rather than have the results conveyed to them over the phone). This practice helps my patients understand the anatomical nature of their pathology and also provides them with visual feedback of how we may plan to specifically address their issue 🙌🏻

🔋 🚗 Battery Swap 🚗 🔋

Did you know that there are multiple types of spinal cord stimulator brands/batteries? As the technology in our field has progressed over time so have the treatment modalities available for patients with existing spinal cord stimulator systems

This particular patient had an older battery in place and was not getting the relief he had years prior🪫 After a few discussions in clinic we ultimately decided it was time for a battery change to something more advanced in order to further address his pain profile 🔧 💥

🔑ANOTHA ONE🔑

This patient was suffering from chronic lumbar spinal stenosis that was having a negative impact on her daily life. After appropriate diagnosis of the condition and failed conservative therapies (PT, meds, injections) we ultimately decided to utilize the Vertiflex interspinous spacer to help alleviate her symptoms. She is now 6 weeks post-op and already back to activities that bring her happiness - dishes! 🧼😂
