"Back to school backpack strain" 🩺🧑🏻⚕️
Back strain from backpacks is normal, right? No.
Studies show carrying a backpack can put a force that’s 7.2 times the weight of the backpack on the spine! This increases to 11.6 times if hunched over.
Here are shopping tips:
Roll it! rolling backpacks are a surefire way to keep the weight and pressure off your back and on the ground.
Fix your posture: the natural inclination is to lean forward to compensate for the weight but check yourself in a mirror – and then stand up straight.
Lose the load: kids should not carry more than 10 to 20 percent of their total body weight. For adults, no more than 15 to 20 percent.
Check your straps: tighten the straps to ensure the weight is properly distributed. Padded straps also help as they’re often wider than your typical backpack.
Come on in: If you try all of these tips and you still have back pain and strain, give us a call. There may be an underlying condition.
