Sharing an important message from NICU Parent Network

Your voice matters—especially in the United States.
Families around the world are participating—but U.S. responses are falling behind.

If you are a parent or primary caregiver OR you know someone who is, we invite you to participate and help spread the word. Even sharing this with just one other family makes a meaningful difference.

Families are eligible if their child:
✔️ Was born preterm (before 37 weeks), with or without a BPD diagnosis or lung/respiratory issues
✔️ Has been discharged from their initial hospital stay
✔️ Is under 18 years old
✔️ Was born in or currently lives in the United States

Your experience—or the experience of someone you know—can drive real improvements in NICU care, follow-up programs, and public health policy.

Skin-to-skin care, also known as kangaroo care, provides numerous benefits for babies and parents. For babies, skin-to-skin helps stabilize breathing, body temperature, and heart rate; improves sleep and weight gain; improves feeding; reduces stress and crying; promotes better brain growth and neurodevelopmental outcomes; and reduces the risk of infection by exposing babies to beneficial bacteria that support their developing immune system.

NICU awareness month is a time to honor babies who have spent time in the neonatal intensive care unit, families who have experienced having a critically ill or preterm newborn, the staff who care for them, and the NICU grads who are still fighting, showing incredible resilience every day.
