Upper lid blepharoplasty is my 🥖 and 🧈 surgery, but also one of my favorites to perform because of the trifecta result of seeing better, looking better & feeling better. Pictured is my beautiful patient 4 weeks postop already thrilled with her gorgeous yet natural transformation! Upper lid blepharoplasty fun facts:

⏰ 30 minutes in office
💉 Awake surgery with local anesthesia
✂️ Incision hides in natural lid crease
🛏️ 1 week recovery w/o strenuous exercise
🧊 Cold compresses first 2 days to help swelling
🌟 Goal of brighter vision & eyes

I had a fantastic time at the Spring Scientific Meeting this past weekend! I presented our research on the development of a new and exciting app for the diagnosis of and enjoyed my first time visiting beautiful Napa! Aside from all the learning, the best part of the meetings is always seeing so many wonderful colleagues & friends! 💛

Part of the fun of being in medicine is still seeing new things after 10 years of practice! This is a case of my patient who presented with what was presumed to be acute cellulitis (infection) with few days of swelling, redness and pain. Imaging was performed with concern for orbital abscess, but when patient was taken for surgery, an actual mass was discovered ( ⚠️ swipe to see intraoperative photo) Biopsy result came back as pleomorphic adenoma with acute necrosis - very uncommon presentation of a common lacrimal gland tumor and was published in Orbit 📰 (thanks to the hard work of our medical student !) This type of tumor is benign, and patient did great after removal (pictured 1 week postop)! Love a job that keeps you learning & seeing new things! 💫

Did you know that 5-10% of all skin cancers occur on the eyelid? Pictured is my patient who presented with a right lower lid basal cell carcinoma (most common type). She underwent excision of the cancer by a Mohs dermatologist (who looks under 🔬 to ensure clear margins) and the defect was reconstructed using a Tenzel lateral flap. We are both thrilled with her rapid healing and functional, cancer free eyelid. 💫

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the the US, so if you love being outdoors as much as I do (especially now that it’s spring ☀️), always remember your UV blocking sunglasses , SPF15+ moisturizer & hat!

This is one of my most rewarding cases 💫
My patient suffered from severe blepharospasm & apraxia (uncontrolled eye blinking with inability to open the eyes as pictured) leaving him functionally blind. Botox was no longer effective, so we performed myectomy (surgery to remove muscle that closes the eyes). He’s pictured one month postop, thrilled to be able to see light again and no longer be dependent on others for mobility & functioning! 🩵

Happy (early) Doctor’s Day 2025 🩺✨ to my amazing colleagues and mentors who dedicate their lives to healing and caring for others. As an oculoplastic surgeon, this day is a reminder of the privilege I have to help my patients, one eyelid, one orbit, one grateful patient at a time ☺️ Here’s to the art, science & heart of what we are so lucky to do in this amazing field of medicine! 💙

And a special shoutout to my two favorite doctors (swipe ➡️) - my cardiologist better half & (now retired but forever awesome) urologist father, who continue to inspire me everyday 🙏🏽

Ptosis repair is one of my favorite surgeries to perform because of the potential for improved vision, energy & appearance! Ptosis (silent p) is a condition where the lid covers the colored part of the eye, limiting the amount of light entering the eye. It can be treated with surgery to tighten the eyelid elevator muscle. My patient flew from Ecuador to see me for eyelid surgery, and we are both thrilled with his transformation! Happy patient = happy doctor 💫

It was so great having Dr. Eliseo Echaverry, the Oculoplastics fellow from Honduras 🇭🇳 , observe this week! Teaching him in clinic and surgery has been a privilege and a joy, and I’m hopeful that some of what he learned will be useful in helping to improve patients’ lives in his home country! 🤍

The goal of upper and lower blepharoplasty is always a more refreshed yet natural version of yourself. Pictured is my patient who was tired of looking and feeling tired from her heavy upper lids and lower lid bags. She underwent upper and lower blepharoplasty and is thrilled with her transformation seen at 6 weeks postop (though still in healing phase) 💫 and happy patient = happy doctor 💛
